Traditional Japanese Hammer | Square Gennou
Silver Finished Square Hammer in 225 or 570g
Japanese hammers (or Genno / Gennou) are an extremely well balanced tool made with a unique steel that helps to absorb some of the impact of a hammer strike. They are made to be used with Japanese chisels (Nomi) and Japanese woodworking planes (Kanna), along with performing precision hammering tasks like driving small nails in tight or awkward locations. As is the case with most traditional Japanese hammers, one side of the face is flat with the opposing side a slight convex to help perform different tasks more accurately.
Our Square Gennou are one of the best selling Japanese hammers worldwide. They look good and perform very well. They are great for all chisel work, tuning kanna and accurate hammering in most situations. The 225g is a good middle weight hammer, large enough for Kanna and Chisel work but small enough for most tight situations, it's one of our best all-rounders (along with our 375g Octagonal). The large 570g variant is the largest hammer we stock and great for anything that requires some serious striking force.
