Morihei Amakusa Natural Stone

Posted by Jon Spencer on

The Morihei Amakusa Natural Stone is not only great value for a course natural stone but also fantastic value compared to course synthetic stones! The size 15 option is a massive 70mm thick, this stone will last years even for the busiest sharpener.

Mined in Amakusa, Kumamoto Prefecture in the south of Japan these stones are quite hard so it is best to raise a slurry with a diamond plate before sharpening. The scratch pattern is course and good for minor stock removal and a foundation for Kasumi polishing.

The stone is processed and graded by renowned Japanese stone maker Morihei Asakusabashi. Morihei is over 100 years old and is one of the largest producers of natural stones in Japan.
